Direct and indirect support of non-profit cultural, scientific, and charitable endeavors, such as the publication of a non-commercial series of cultural publications; the charitable purpose also includes the support of natural persons. Indirect support of institutions requires that they are tax-exempt by the Canton of Zurich due to their non-profit status or, if based outside the canton, are recognized as non-profit by the Canton of Zurich.

Die Vontobel-Stiftung nimmt nur elektronische Gesuche über die Gesuchsplattform (Link auf der Website vontobel-stiftung.ch) entgegen.

Kern des Leistungsvermögens ist ein Aktienpaket der Vontobel-Holding, das durch weitere Zustiftungen privater Mäzene aufgestockt werden konnte. Die Stiftung steht unter Aufsicht des Amtes für Berufliche Vorsorge und Stiftungen des Kantons Zürich. Die Stiftung finanziert Projekte gemeinnütziger Schweizer Institutionen in den Bereichen Medizinische Forschung, Sozialarbeit, Heimat- und Kulturpflege, Naturschutz sowie der Kultur, vor allem im Grossraum Zürich.
