Dietmar Hopp Stiftung

The foundation is one of the largest private foundations in Europe. In the first 25 years of its existence, it has committed over one billion euros in funding. The focus of the funding activities is in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, to which the founder feels particularly connected: "I was born and grew up here and this is where the cradle of my success lies. That's why I'm now happy to give something back to the region."

Upon application, the Dietmar Hopp Foundation supports projects of non-profit organizations in the fields of medicine, education, social affairs, youth sports and climate protection.

In the medical field, above all, research projects are carried out at the highest level, e.g. B. in cancer research and paediatrics. Other major funding projects include the planned construction of the Heart Center and the Hopp Children's Cancer Center in Heidelberg.

While institutions for young people - from kindergarten to university - are supported in the area of education, the area of social affairs focuses in particular on promoting the coexistence of old and young and promotes facilities and projects for children, senior citizens and people with disabilities. In addition, there is a focus in the social area on the promotion of facilities and projects for seriously ill and dying people.

The promotion of youth sports plays a central role because sport has a positive effect on the development of children and young people. Among other things, sports clubs and projects dedicated to the comprehensive care of young people are supported.

In 2014, the Dietmar Hopp Foundation also established the Climate Foundation for Citizens. It is intended to promote understanding of climate change and sustainable living and economic activity, while at the same time inspiring action. To this end, the Climate Foundation for Citizens has been operating the Klima Arena in Sinsheim since October 2019, an innovative exhibition and extracurricular place of learning for everyone who wants to make a sustainable commitment to climate and the environment.
