RAG-Stiftung

The purpose of the RAG Foundation is to adapt, control and support the German hard coal mining industry of RAG Aktiengesellschaft (formerly Ruhrkohle AG) depending on the legal and other framework conditions for ending subsidized hard coal mining in Germany.

According to its statutes, the RAG-Stiftung also has the following tasks:

• It is responsible for financing the perpetual tasks from the German hard coal mining of RAG Aktiengesellschaft: mine water management, polder measures and groundwater purification.
• Another task of the RAG Foundation is to promote education, science and culture in the former mining regions of the Ruhr, Saar and Ibbenbüren, insofar as this is related to German hard coal mining.

In the future, the foundation will also promote the further development of institutions that have previously received regular grants from RAG AG and whose existence would be threatened if coal mining ended. These include, for example, the German Mining Museum as a research and museum facility, the private Technical University Georg Agricola (THGA) in Bochum and miners' choirs and orchestras.
