The foundation, which does not pursue any profit-making or self-help purposes, promotes the long-term safeguarding and expansion of the Archives of Contemporary History at ETH Zurich as a documentation and research center for general and Swiss contemporary history. At the time the foundation was set up, these included the documentation centers for Jewish contemporary history, economics and contemporary history and Switzerland - Cold War 1945 - 1990. The foundation thus makes a significant contribution to the long-term preservation and use of first-class cultural assets in Switzerland on the basis of the most modern archiving and information technologies. It also promotes the acquisition and continuation of the property at Hirschengraben 62, 8001 Zurich, in order to secure the working basis of the archive for contemporary history and its documentation points in the immediate vicinity of the universities.
