Mission
The foundation (umbrella foundation) aims to manage and support legally independent private foundations and dependent foundations (sub-foundations, funds). As a non-profit umbrella foundation, the foundation offers private donors – regardless of the size of their assets – the opportunity to effectively implement their personal sponsorship goals according to the standards of cost-efficient sponsorship. The foundation's primary objective is the purpose as defined by Christoph Merian in his will of March 26, 1857. Accordingly, the foundation's primary objective is to promote human welfare and alleviate hardship and misfortune. The foundation's further purpose is to support tax-exempt or tax-worthy non-profit organizations, works, and projects in social, charitable, humanitarian, cultural, scientific, ecological, or other non-profit areas. The foundation's sphere of activity extends to the trinational region of Basel. Exceptions are possible in justified cases. By networking and pooling the goals and donations of private sponsors, the foundation makes a significant contribution to the sustainable development of civil society. The foundation is politically and religiously neutral.
